Surfers Paradise and Currumbin

The Travel Channel

The Crowd @ Surfers Paradise beachToday I went on another excursion by International Student Services, this time by bus to Surfers Paradise and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast. This is definitively a trip I will recommend, especially visiting Currumbin which is a zoo displaying the range of natural Australian wildlife and fauna.

Most spectacular where of course the Kanguroos, Wallabies and Koalas who roamed almost freely and were tame enough to pet. But both the Wombat (a strange gnaver resembling a black mini-pig) and the Tasmanian-Devils who were constantly running in circles was quite a view for european eyes. Christine with KoalaAmongst the parks other residents were the Dingo (praerie dogs like the hyena), freshwater Crocodiles, Echidnas (a sort of ant-eater) and a myriad of colorful waterbirds and cockatoos. My only regret is that they did not have the duckbilled platypus which is one of Australias strangest creatures, but hopefully I will get to see one at Australia Zoo later on.

On the bus I were seated next to Christine, a very nice norwegian girl who are also studying IT. I got to know her a bit during the trip and while we walked around Currumbin together, where she of course had to have her picture taken with a koala :)
After leaving the park, everyone had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafè in Surfers Paradise, whereafter we went down to the gold coast beaches renown amongst surfers. The waves where not very large as it is wintertime, but since the water temperature were 18-19 degrees no scandinavian could resist to wade in. I would have taken a swim had I remembered to bring my swimwear and a towel, but that will have to wait for my next Gold Coast trip. Maybe then we can sign up for surfing-school as well!

Hei, hei Svein Magnus:)

Christine :)
