ScanOZ 2004

Brisbane Daily Life

To create better understanding between students and employers in Norway and Australia a subcommittee of ANSA was created to hold a career day / conference to allow for the creation of connections and to give the parties a chance to meet and learn from each other.
After a year of hard work by the ScanOZ commitee the conference finally took place yesterday, a full day with seminars, information-stands and food at QUT's School of Business.

The doors opened at 10a.m to let people register and mingle a bit before the first seminar at 10:15. It was held by Paul Davidsson giving a brief welcome to ScanOZ speech before doing his main topic about doing business in Australia and how it it changing. It wasn't all that interesting, but it just made Christian Dyresen's lecture so much more exiting. He is 23 years old and is the youngest manager of an Innovation-company in Norway. His speech on network-building wasn't really about that, but more a story of his life and how he came to be what he is, along the way giving lots of tips and hints about things he has found that makes him successful in business. It was very interesting and he is an amazing person.

There were lots of seminars beeing held, many concurrently, so I didn't get to hear them all. Besides the awesome one by Dyresen I also attented a couple about writing a good resumè, both for Norwegian and International use, as well as one about entrepreneurship and idea-generation in Norway. In-between the semiars people mingled to create new contacts and asked questions at the stalls where amongst others Norske Skog, Accenture and Wallenius Wilhelmsen had a prescence with information and representatives.

Later in the evening after the seminars many of the people attending, including representatives for the companies, joined up at the Port Office Hotel for drinks, fun and finger-food, where we also sang the birthday-song for the president of ScanOZ who actually had his birthday yesterday! I had lots of fun and think everyone else did too. Around 2am most of the people left at the Port Office headed out to the Down Under Bar for the regular wrap-up of a good night out in Brisbane!
