Busy days part 2: November

Living in Trondheim

With exams closing in on us there wasn't much time for anything during November, especially not blogging, but in between all of the studying we managed to squeeze in a long-weekend to visit Carina's mother in Lier, and I did get to go to Start NTNU's annual christmas party!

After many days of hard studying we drove to Lier to visit Carina's mother on the 10th of November. As it is close to Oslo I had planned to visit some friends there as well when we were in the area, but fate wanted it differently. Out of the blue my nose and throath started to clog up, and shortly thereafter I was having a hard time breathing, so we rushed to the emergency room and as we had expected from the symptons I was diagnosed with Asthma-Allergy. It came as a total surprise as I have never been allergic to anything during my entire life, and I still don't know what caused it. Most likely I am slightly allergic to cats and a cat hair that got in my eye the first night triggered the reaction, but after getting various kinds of asthma- and allergymedication prescribed I recovered quickly, and by now the symptoms are entirely gone.

For me, most of the trip to Oslo was not the vacation I had hoped, but upon our return to Trondheim we had to hit the books again as Carina had both her exams the week after our return, and my first were coming up on the 30th.

A longstanding Norwegian tradition is the annual christmas-parties held by most companies and organizations for their members and employees. For many it is a get-shitfaced-and-make-an-ass-of-yourself-while-harassing-your-boss kind of thing with food, but for Start NTNU it was rather a stylish dinner at Cafè Dali on the 19th, complete with speeches and jokes, and the customary singing of 'Nu Klinger', a song that the students of Trondheim has been singing at festive occations for more than 80 years, since the opening of Trondheims Student Society during UKA in 1929.

Then comes 28th of November, not only the 7.month anniversary for Carina and me, but also the first sunday of Advent. A day we marked by lighting of the first of the four christmas candles while watching TV2's Advent-sunday-calendar production "The Journey to Christmas" and eating Stickybuns. YuMMeY! :-)

Så tenner vi et lys i kveld, vi tenner det for glede
Det står og skinner for seg selv og oss som er tilstede
Så tenner vi et lys i kveld, vi tenner det for glede.

Then comes the 30th of November, and the day of my first exam. After a week of intense studies I didn't feel prepared at all and almost expected to fail, but surprisingly I could answer most of the questions and I think I did quite well. We'll find out when the results are published in January, but for now I need to study for my next two exams and I hope they go as well as this one. At least today is the 1st of December, and we got to open our advent-calendars!
Mine is a Nemi calendar (from the norwegian comic Nemi) and I get small pieces of chocolate and a quote from the comic every day :-D

Update: This entry was actually written on December 1st, but to keep the archives of my life more readable it has been backdated to the end of November.
